Swiss referendum supports strict restrictions on e-cigarette advertising

on February 13, 56.6% of voters in Switzerland and most of the country’s 26 cantons supported a proposal to ban all tobacco and e-cigarette advertisements that may reach young people in Switzerland. It is reported that about 5.3 million people voted this time.

While cigarette advertising on television and radio is generally prohibited at Swiss federal level, each region has different regulations for tobacco promotion in cinemas and public places such as festivals or public transport. Only a few states ban cigarette advertising in the print press or on the Internet.

But Swiss Health Minister Alain Berset said the new rule was unlikely to come into force in 2022.
